Today’s blog post will put the spotlight on this award winning project, and hopefully provide our readers with an insight into some of the amazing work that we are able to do for our customers.
Design Brief
When we were approached by the homeowner, we were given a detailed brief of what he would like done to his 1920’s Queenslander home.  This project was quite unique, as the owner was looking at transforming a spare bedroom/storeroom into the bathroom.  As far as the style goes, the owner was interested in incorporating Japanese elements that would be used in synergy with some hi-tech features.  This was obviously going to be quite a challenge.
The Challenge
Like so many old Queenslanders the existing room was of single VJ construction, including the external walls and was totally out of square. The windows were to be blocked up and new high level windows installed. The height of the new windows was also dictated by a beam that supports the external deck roof.
The Features
Following the customers design brief, we ended up installing under-floor heating with on/off timing and special insulation under the timber floor, a Velux window with automatic opening and electrically operated internal blinds, steam sensored exhaust fan and a fully automated toilet suite with seat warmer, auto lifting seat and bidet functions.
The Design
The design provides a strong masculine feel accentuated by the dark wall tiling to the shower and toilet wall, the four wall hung vanity drawers and unit in blackened line wood gloss laminate. This was softened by the round shapes of the wall faced toilet pan, the organic bamboo timber bath and the travertine floor tiles which were also continued onto the vanity wall. Soft LED lighting with dimmer function, under the cabinetry adds to the mood of the room, providing a relaxing feel. Task lighting at the mirror was not available in the market and were specifically designed by All Bathroom Gear and manufactured locally.
